About MARK

WHO IS MARK CAMPBELL

I was born and raised in Lethbridge and have spent my entire life in the city. I graduated from CCHS and took Radio Arts at what was then the Lethbridge Community College. (Now Lethbridge Polytechnic) I have cherished the opportunity to have spent 40 years working in radio, TV and Newspaper. I still get a kick out of people remembering me as “The Boogie Man” which was my nick-name on 1090 CHEC and I was so grateful for my 20 years doing TV weather along with Scene & Heard where I met so many people who make this community thrive. I have been married to my wife Sharlene for 32 years with a family of 5 children and 7 grandchildren.

As a City Councillor I feel it’s important to be involved in the community. I am a big supporter of the Arts and sports groups and I try my best to get to as many events as I can. This is also a very diverse city and there are so many great organizations doing extraordinary things.  It’s a great way to get the pulse of the city. Being involved is something I intend to continue to do if I’m elected.

Moving Forward: Here are my priorities
    1. Budgets are going to be tight this year and council is going to have to make some tough decisions.

    2. I hear loud and clear that people want fiscal responsibility. That could mean a pause on some Capital Investment Projects.

    3. Continue funding Police and Fire Services.

    4. Continue to invest in Water & Waste Water expansion.

    5. The City just launched the New Business Development, Expansion and Retention Incentive Program which is a grant-based initiative that is hoping to support local industry, encourage business growth and retention and attracting new investment to the city.

    6. The City has a housing solutions coordinator who is continuing to address housing concerns.

    7. Keep recruiting doctors.

    8. Maintain a great relationship with the University and the Polytechnic

    9. Discussions are ongoing to enhance services at the Airport

    10. As an optimist, I believe that the new business model at the Exhibition will continue to improve profitability. There will be two functions: One is Ag-related. The other is event related.

    11. The Third Bridge? We need to get some provincial and/or federal help. The tax burden to the city would be unrealistic at this time.

Thanks To the Great Communication Team At the City Here’s a Look At What We Accomplished in this term:

Here are a few memorable moments from the last four years. Sometimes people even came to Council Chambers.
